A five-piece band from Raleigh. We are new to blogging, but will be posting things about ourselves, new music, media, and things that we like. We would love if you listened to us at www.tincansailor.bandcamp.com

Pour House. November has become an extended stay for us at the Pour House in downtown Raleigh. Two weeks into the month and we have already had two shows there, with one more to follow on December 1st. We have had so much fun playing at such a great place, and we greatly appreciate you guys coming out in flocks to watch us.
Our first show there with Holy Ghost Tent Revival was packed from floor to ceiling. It was so cool to play with one of North Carolina’s premier up and coming bands. That show was probably our biggest show as a band and hopefully we will use it as a stepping stone towards bigger and better things. The show last night was with Simplified and the feedback we got from the crowd made it seem like it was one of the better shows we have played this year.
Our show on Thursday December 1st is organized by another great local Raleigh band Clay Pigeons, and might be of our last show in Raleigh before the Holiday Break. If those two aren’t reason to come out, it is also everyone’s favorite bass player Chris Lazarek’s birthday! The cover is only $5, so we would like to cap off our last show in Raleigh with a huge crowd, and celebrate Chris’s birthday with all of our fans.
As always, we love you guys and really appreciate everything that you do for us. Send us your thoughts, some inspiration, or any feedback at all to our Twitter or Facebook. Photo Credit to Pam Nichols. Cheers!
Apologies
Hey fans, sorry that we have been off of the map lately. We have been very busy practicing for this monumental November that is ahead of us. As some of you know, we were supposed to have a show last week in Chapel Hill. Unfortunately there were complications that occurred at the last minute preventing us from putting on a great show. We don’t know a lot of the detail from that night, but we have heard that one of the investors of Alphabet City fled the state without telling anyone. We tried to book another venue to play at last minute, but since we weren’t notified until right before our show it was close to impossible to find a bar to host us. Again, we are truly sorry about the last minute cancellation of our show, and if you want a personal apology feel free to email us your name at tincansailormusic@gmail.com and we will write you one. But in the mean time, check out our calendar and plan your next trip to downtown Raleigh to see your favorite band.
Cheers,
Tin Can Sailor
Fall Break. This week the students at NC State had their fall break, so Tin Can Sailor decided to have a break too. We have been very busy this week with schoolwork, work schedules, and job interviews. Also, our friend Matt Bailer got married this weekend, so congratulations to him and his new wife Michelle!
This past week, we have been working very hard at scheduling new gigs, and have officially confirmed 3 new events. You can check them out in the new “calendar” page in the menu on your left. There will be 2 in November, 1 in January, and we are constantly emailing people to add more. We hope to see you out soon, and remember to keep up with all of our social media outlets, and check back here for possible rough drafts of new songs!
Since it has been over a week since our last post, we figured we would give you guys a song for your troubles. This song is the original version of Cost Me More, very acoustic. Listen up, enjoy, and leave us comments on our Facebook and Twitter. Cheers!
Continuing the trend of fun Friday posts, today we will be focusing on our favorite song of the week. This is not our favorite song of all time mind you, but this is the song that has really caught our attention, and repeat setting on our ipod this week. As you can see by our Friday post last week, we all have very different taste in what we personally listen to. YouTube links will be provided (they are hidden in the song titles), sparing you the trouble of looking each song up individually. The post is short this week, so without further adue here are our song picks of the week.
Matt Gilmore: Anything by Tony Bennett
Jason Adouli: J. Cole - Rise and Shine
Kyle Jackson: Dawes - My Girl to Me
Logan Draughn: St. Vincent - Chloe in the Afternoon
Chris Lazarek: Marc Broussard - You Met Your Match
We hope you enjoy our picks, and as always keep checking back here for more updates. Let us know what you are listing to by commenting or posting on Twitter or our Facebook page!
Surprise! As mentioned in prior posts, Tin Can Sailor is working on some new songs. Well today is your lucky day, because we have a short recording of one of them. The recording is not the best quality; it was taken on Chris’s iPhone, and it is not the full or finished version. In fact, we have even made changes to it since recording this last week. We just wanted to thank you guys for being such great fans. Who knows, if there is a good response to this song blog post it may turn into a weekly thing. So on that note, enjoy the song and please make sure to let us know what you think about it by commenting or posting on Twitter or our Facebook page!
Update. Last week was a slower week. As we are getting into the full rotation of school, work, and other activities, we are trying to carve out as much Tin Can Sailor time as we can. On Tuesday we had our second show of the season at Tir Na Nog; this time we played with another band called Crystal Bright & the Silver Hands. They were a very interesting band from Greensboro, NC with a great sound.
Coming up this week, we are still trying to schedule some gigs for the fall season. So if you know anyone who is trying to schedule a band, or events that would like a band to play, shoot us an email at TinCanSailorMusic@gmail.com. Webmaster Kyle created a new website where you can listen and share some of our music, and we are recruiting you to spread the word. The new site is at viinyl.com and has links to all of our other social media sites. As always, keep up with our Facebook and Twitter for updates, and send us some comments on either site. We love hearing from you guys!
Friday. Because it’s Friday, we figured we might as well have a fun post. Today we will feature the albums that we are currently listening to. You should check out this music, because it comes highly recommended by your favorite local band. You can head to your local music store to pick it up, or give it a listen on Spotify (if you haven’t had a chance to check that out, it is definitely worth a download). Here are our picks:
Matt Gilmore: Fruitbats - Tripper
Jason Adouli: Big Sean - Finally Famous
Kyle Jackson: The War on Drugs - Slave Ambient
Logan Draughn: Buke and Gass - Riposte
Chris Lazarek: Ben Rector - Something Like This
Hope this music can brighten up your day/week/life. Let us know what you are listening to via twitter at @TinCanSailor
Cheers!
Song Writing. We are all working hard on writing new songs. While it is fun to experiment, it is also hard to write at a quality that we are proud to call a Tin Can Sailor song. We hold ourselves to a high standard, because we want you to hear great music. We have a couple of songs in the works, so before you know it we will be in the studio recording another set of songs!
We played a new song at Tir Na Nog on Tuesday, and it felt pretty good. We are going to pioneer that song, and hopefully it will be complete before the next batch of shows come around. For now, keep enjoying our usual set live, and who knows, we may surprise you with part of a new one every now and then.
Shows thus far. We have had a great time playing the couple of shows that we have played so far this season. We have played two great shows at Tir Na Nog, and an acoustic set at Busy Bee during Hopscotch. If you haven’t had the chance to see us live yet, keep up with our Facebook and Twitter pages to see when and where we will be playing next.
On a side note, congratulations to our fine city of Raleigh for being named the #1 city in the US (and probably top 5 in the universe)! We love calling Raleigh our home, and we get to share it with a wealth of great local bands. If you are not into the local music scene yet, it is not hard to find your way. Head downtown to one of Raleigh’s 100+ bars and check out who is playing.
Here is video from our first concert of the fall. Adele’s “Someone like you”. Hope you will enjoy. Show your friends.
